Reiki
For thousands of years, ancient cultures have recognized the "life force" within each and every human, but only recently has the scientific community been able to prove and measure this energy and therefore give "energetic medicine" validation in this country.

Reiki is a technique for stress reduction and relaxation that allows everyone to tap into an unlimited supply of "life force energy" to improve health and enhance the quality of life.

Reiki treatments are extremely relaxing and the energy that flows through your body may feel warm, tingly, or like a smooth current flowing through you and surrounding you. Reiki treats the body, mind, spirit and emotions and creates many beneficial effects including relaxation and feelings of peace, security, and well-being. Reiki is a simple, natural, and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use.

The meaning of the word Reiki translates as Spiritually Guided Life Force Energy. The Japanese kanji characteror ideogram for Rei can mean universal or spiritual consciousness. This is the wisdom that comes from God or the Higher Self. This is the God-Consciousness that knows all, including our imbalances and how to correct them. Ki means the same as Chi in Chinese, Prana in Sanskrit and Ti or Ki in Hawaiian. Ki is the life force. All living things have life force circulating through and surrounding them. This liife force animates the body and also is the primary energy of our emotions, thoughts and spiritual life. Ki is the nonphysical energy used by all healers. It is the God-consciousness called Rei that guides the life force called Ki in the practice we call Reiki. Therefore, Reiki can be defined as spiritually guided life force energy.

While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. It has no dogma, and there is nothing you must believe in order to learn and use Reiki. In fact, Reiki is not dependent on belief at all and will work whether you believe in it or not. Because Reiki comes from God, many people find that using Reiki puts them more in touch with the experience of their spirituality rather than having only an intellectual concept of it. While Reiki is not a religion, living in a way that promotes harmony with others helps one to stay balanced and live a life of optimal well-being.

At the Center for the Healing Arts, we may use Reiki as part of your acupuncture treatment to help get the energy moving, or you may schedule Reiki sessions as stand-alone treatments. These are especially beneficial for patients with high anxiety, those afraid of needles, or those just interested in a peaceful, balancing session.

Those interested in becoming Reiki practitioners can also contact the Center, as classes are given on a frequent basis by Reverend Chala Salcedo.
